How To Burn Belly Fat

If you ask most people how to burn belly fat, you would get a predictable answer: less junk food, less booze and more exercise. So why this approach doesn't work?

Essentially, there is nothing wrong with this it, and logically if you create an energy deficit, at least some of the visceral fat (it's not very difficult to get rid of it anyway) will be mobilized and burned.

However, putting this standard advice into practice it's not that easy because we tend to underestimate our calorie intake even when we make a cognitive effort to eat less.

This usually happens because we rely more on external cues (when the plate is empty, running out of booze or when some retarded TV show is over), and less on whether we feel full or not.

This can be is a real problem for the overweight folks because they grossly miscalculate their food consumption – some think they eat half as much as they actually do.

These are the same people who are concerned about their protruding belly, and who are desperately trying to get in shape.

Yet if you put skinny and obese people together in a lab, they usually guess pretty accurately the calorie content of all sorts of foods.

This can be rather confusing, and sometimes heavier folks are even rudely accused of being hypocrites in spite of their best intentions to prove their honesty.

The reality is that we naturally tend to underestimate the size or weight of an object as it becomes bigger.

For example, you could estimate fairly accurately the height of a two-story house but not the height of a skyscraper. The same principle can be applied to everything, including food.

And guess what! Overweight people normally eat more (bigger portions) because that's how they got fat in the first place.

It's much easier to underestimate the calorie content of a triple whopper than of a simple burger. So they don't lie or live in denial as they are suspected by some mainstream dietitians or physicians.

Furthermore, they genuinely believe that their lousy exercise session on the treadmill would help them burn thousands of calories which is far from reality.

Running (in this case, walking would be a more appropriate term) one mile burns roughly 100 calories, whereas eating a double whopper (without the french fries) adds about 1000 calories to their gut.

How to burn belly fat then? Should you change your eating habits, or find a form of exercise that would somehow miraculously chisel your abs within 2 weeks?

It's worth mentioning that visceral fat (found in your belly) can be mobilized and burned fairly easy provided that you spend more calories than you eat.

Even when insulin levels are high, visceral fat doesn't stop releasing fatty acids as it happens with other fat cells (which can be problematic if overall calorie intake is not reduced).

Furthermore, this fat has a good blood flow, which also helps to mobilize it rapidly. In other words, belly fat responds very well to any diet, as long as you eat less.

It should be mentioned that visceral fat is even more responsive to catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline), so your regular weight training (assuming that you do such a thing) will furthermore help you to get a flat stomach (and who knows, maybe six pack abs.).

My point is that you don't have to look for an elaborate solution to tell you how to burn belly fat. Just be aware of how much you eat, and find a practical way (that suits you) to really reduce calories. Also, learn what productive exercise means, and hit the gym dude!
